Progressivism

Here are the four primary goals of progressivism. Describe each of the goals and give a specific accomplishment of each.

Check out this photo gallery of child labor during the late 1800's early 1900's.

Do you think these ideas are still relevant today?

The Triangle Factory fire. What happened?

The Idea of progressivism was Democracy, efficiency, regulation of a large corp. an monoplies, and social justice. I think the children an the work they were doing was sad. Also about the fire thing, that was sad too.

The first goal was a democracy in which the progressives tried to make a government within the U.S. They did this by allowing citizens to make laws and alowing them to vote for or against them. Citizens were also given the right to elect their senators. This all made the government democratic. The second goal was efficiency in which the progressives made opperations run more smoothly. They did this by reducing the number of officials and developing budgets. All of this caused the people to be overshadowed, so their voices were not heard. The third goal was regulating the large corporations and the last goal was social justice. They helped the citizens out a lot. I think that some of these ideas are still relevant today. One being the fact that we need to help those less fortunate which is why we have Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.

I think that many of the progressives’ ideas are those of people now. I think that they made the most lasting impact in their goal of democracy for that did help push the government more towards that way and still remain today. At the time, regulation of large corporations and monopolies was key, but now I would consider the social justice more important because of child labor laws. I think the weakest goal was efficiency only because it doesn’t seem to have the same impact and power as the others.

The first is creation of a Democracy. Through this progessives wish to make the US government more aware of the peoples voice and to take them into consideration. They set for ideas of: initiative, referendum, recall, secret ballot, direct primary, direct election of senators, and womens suffrage. Other that creating a more democratic government this movement got rid of bosses. When the Australian secret ballot was introduced it eliminted bosses because they couldn't tell if the people were voting for their man.

Secondingly is efficiency. Through this progressives hoped to make the American government more helpful the people by making the government more efficient and rational. Movements for efficiency included: Elite, professional administrators,Centralization of decision-making process, and Movements to eliminate governmental corruption. This movements accomplishment was that is led to the rise of professional administrators rather than bosses.

Thirdly is regulation of large companies and monopolies. Through this progressives hoped to, obviously, have "control" of the corporations, to make them smaller so that there will be compitition. They came up with four ways in doing this. Laissez-Faire, this was an argument made that, in the end the best market would be a free one. Trust-busting this was the idea of breaking up large corporations to have compitition. Regulation this was the idea that instead of having control of the monopolies, just to regulate them so they dont get out of control. Socialism this was the idea in which the government should take control of and run large corporations. This led to the accomplishment of having an open market with compitition.

Lastly comes social justice. Through this progressives supported both private and governmental action to help those in need. Reforms of this movement include: Development of professional social workers,The building of Settlement Houses, The enactment of child labor laws, Support for the goals of organized labor, Prohibition laws. I believe the biggest acheivement of this movement was the child labor laws.

I believe that most of these ideas are still effiecient, the ones put forward by the progressives. Only some are still needed today.

There were 4 goals used to better the government. they were demoracy, efficiency, regulation of large corps. and social justice all of these were geat ideas. Child labor was rediculous. How could u have children of such young age workin so hard. Efiiciency was to better the gov.

Anonymous said...

Um, Okay well first of all, all these kids that are working at such a young age is some bull. Kids are suppose to enjoy childhood, and be care free, not work their a** off. Second of all, the 4 goals to "better" the government sucked... Well I take that back the efficiency issue sucked. This was like the weakest link of the 4 ideas.

I feel that the progressive movement was very beneficial to our country. Yes we as Americans have a long way to go but that movement made America what it is today.Progressivism was for democracy, efficiency, social justice, and the regulation of big business. Thanks to this movement we have the secret ballot, direct primary, direct election of senators, woman's suffrage, elimination of political corruption, labor laws, and countless other things.

In the "Progressivism" reform, four general ideas in which progressivism tried to reform was: Democracy, where many progessives tried to reform the U.S. government responsive to the direct voice of the American people by taking the initiative, referendum, recall, The secret ballot, direct primary, direct election of US Senators, and women's sufferage. This achieved their goal of making the US government more democratic.
Many progressives wanted to make American governments able to serve the people's needs by making governmental procedures more helpful through: Elite professional administrators, Centralization of Decision Making Process, and Movements to Elimination Governmental Corruption. But the progressives' ideal for efficiency was at odds with the progressives' quest for democracy at time and took power out of the hands of elected officials. The Centralized decision-making made the government more isolated to the people.
Regulation of large Corporations and Monopolies was where many progressives wanted to regulate large corporations that they could liberate human energies from the restrictions imposed by industrial capitalism. In using this idea, they used the four solutions: Laissez-faire, Trust-busting, Regulation, and Socialism. This was less popular than regulation and socialism than laissez-faire and trust busting.
Social justice is where many progessives supported private and governmental action to help people in need such as: Development of professional social workers, the building of Settlement houses, The Enactment of Child Labor laws, The Support for the Goals of organized labor, and Prohibition laws. These actions came into effect to help the government.

Progressivism was the idea using public policies to better the society as a whole. Four goals progressivism tried to accomplish was a democracy, efficiency, regulation of large corps and social justice. The whole idea of this political reform was to get rid of the political bosses by reducing their power. So in order to do so the government went throuhgh a series of steps which included, direct elections, child labor laws, the square deal, women's suffrage, exposing corruption to the public and many other steps to cahnge the social and political standards of the U.S. All in all these steps lead to the 17th and 19th amendments (direct election of senators, women rights to vote), along with improvements in public transportion. State legislatures were presssured to raise prperty tax so that money could be spent on schools, parks and other public facilities.

it's so sad to see how children were treated and to know that instead of being outside playing they were working hard for nothing

Anonymous said...

Dang, Those pictures of the kids are sad as hell. They look like grown men. While this kids were out working were are their parents at? The triangle Factory Fire is a sad story; imagine little kids jumping out of a nine story building. The only good thing that came out of this tragedy was that the Union workers voice was heard even more. At this period of time Women groups did a good job letting their message out. I think Blanck and Harris are in hell right now. A persons life is worth more than 75 bucks. Those guy are MF's.

The first goal of progressivism was democracy: making the US government more responsive to the direct voice of the American people. One accomplishment toward democracy was the referendum. Another goal of progerssives was efficiency: making governmental operations more efficient and rational. One accomplishment toward efficiency was the movement to end corruption in the government. Another goal of progressivism was the regulation of large corporations and monopolies: liberating human energies from the restrictions imposed by industrial capitalism. One accomplishment toward this was trust-busting. The last goal of progressives was social justice: helping people in need. One accomplishment toward social justice was the enactment of child labor laws. These ideas are most positively relevant today. Although they may not be used very often, they are still relevant.

Progressivism was a movement of several parts. The first was Democracy which under that came goals such as initiative, referendum, recall, secret ballot, direct election, direct primary, women's suffrage and the addition of the 19th amendment. Under Efficiency came goals such as professional administrations, an organized decision making process, and movements to eliminate governmental corruption. Regulation of large corporations and monopolies such as socialism. Under social justice goals such as developing professional social workers and prohibitation laws. I think that Progressivism has overall helped our country and had many good ideas.

Anonymous said...

The first goal of progressivism was to lead the us to a more direct democracy. One example of this is the Australian ballot that allowed people to vote for whoever they wanted because the vote was anonymous. The second goal was to make the United States government more efficient in governing the people. The progressives put forth the city manager system which an administrator ran the city daily. Controlling corporations and monopolies was the third goal of the progressives. Some progressives believed that socialism would control the corporations by allowing the government to run them. The fourth goal of the progressives was to help people in need, social justice. One example of this is the child labor laws, giving children a more adequate education with less work.

In the Triangle Fire, the situation was similar to the night club fires from a couple of years ago. People were crowded in a tight place with guarded and insufficient exits, and a fire broke out.

Anonymous said...

The four goals are:
•democracy- the progressives struggled towards the empowerment of the common people through voting and legislationreforms. An example of this is the women's sufferage movement which gave women voting rights through the nineteenth amendment.
•efficiency- The progressives moved towards a government which could best serve the people through elite, professional administrators, centralized decision making and elimination of governmental corruption.
•Regulation of Larege Corporations and monopolies- the progressives regulated large coroporations to protect the workers and common consumers through market placee regulation, trust busting, regulation of the economy, and socialism. An example of this is the trust busting that occured during the wilson term.
•Social Justice- The progressives worked to push the government to help those in need using plans such as the development of social workers, the building of settlement houses, the enactment of the child labor laws, support for the goals of organized labor and prohibition laws. An example of this is the eighteenth amendment
These ideas are still relevent and current. Worker abuse and mistreatment as well as child labor is still in massive existance. None of the goals that the progressives produced are even close to being accomplished.
The Triangle Factory Fire was an effect of the companies policy of locking the doors as an attempt to allot the workers as small amount of breaks as possible. 146 (out of 500, and others were seriously injured) people died on March 25, 1911 on account of corporate greed.

The basic ideas of the progessivists within the United states were democracy, efficiency, regulation of large corporations and monopolies, and overall social justice. Some of these ideas are still relevant within The US today because of ideas such as the Austrilian ballot which makes it so a person can vote for who they want to vote for secretly which keeps at least a little bit of corruption out of the government.

The pictures of the children forced to work at such young ages was interesting and sad all at the same time. The picture that got to me was the first picture in the gallery on the left about the little boy who didn't know how to read or his ABC's but wanted to learn all of things. It's really sad to look at this because in this day and age that would just be unacceptable. My mom doesn't even want me to work because she thinks that school should always come first so the fact that work came before school is really interesting.

The Triangle Fire was an incident that left 146 out of 500 workers dead and it was a situation where the work enviornment was too crowded and very unsafe and so a fire was the result. It was a big deal back then because it was the first time that such a big fire killed such a substanial amount of people.

progressivism called for social equality, democracy and the regulation of large coropration, they also called for efficincy. i think those ideas have a huge impact in our lives today and in the past. Progressivism came from the middle class which made it way more balanced. it was definitly not on the side of the rich, but not completely on the side of the poor. (oh and those pictures of child labor were sad)

Democracy--
The government tried to improve the democracy of the people so that their ideas would be heard by establishing: initiative, referendum, recall, secret ballot, direct primary, direct election of U.S. Senators, and women's suffrage. With these institutional reforms, the government became a stronger and more democratic nation.
Efficiency--
The government tried to better the lives of the American people by establishing: elite, professional administrators, centralization of decision-making process, and movements to eliminate governmental corruption. With efficiency lead by administrators, they were able to make choices for those who did not make it themselves. They're like a representative.
Regulation of Large Corporations and Monopolies--
Progressives wanted to control large corporations to restrict the industrial capitalism. They tried to regulate the companies by: Laissez-Faire, trust-busting, regulation, and socialism. Some of these restrictions were more enforced and were able to close large corporations.
Social Justice--
The private and governmental action tried to help the needs of people by reforming: the development of professional social workers, the building of Settlement Houses, the enactment of child labor laws, support for the goals of organized labor, and prohibition laws.

I don't think the photo gallery of child labor are still relevant today. Jobs today for teenagers aren't that hard and teenagers are not allowed a lot of hours. Back in the time, children were required to do more than what they have to do now.

The Triangle Factory fire was a disasterous fire in New York City that killed 146 young immigrant workers. This day highlights the inhumane working conditions that the industrial workers went through.

progressivism called for social equality, democracy and the regulation of large coropration, and efficiency. Progressivism had a very big impact on the way we live now and the way we used to live. Progressivism wasnt made by the rich. It was made by the middle class so it was an equalizer. The pictures of the kids working in the factories were horrible. Those kids shouldnt have had to work. It wasnt their fault...

The first goal of progressivism was to make the government more open and responsive to what the people say. An important accomplishment for this part of progressivism was when women's suffrage was achieved with the nineteenth amendment in 1920. The second goal of progressivism was to make the government more efficient and able to take care of the people's needs more readily. An accomplishment of this was the rise of the city manager system. Progressives next tried to regulate large corporations in order to liberate human energies from the restrictions imposed by industrial capitalism. Under this the government should be able to intervene to break up monopolies. The final progressive idea was that of social justice in which the government should take action to help people in need. The progressives gained success in this with the eighteenth amendment in 1919. With the triangle fire, 146 immigrants were killed because they were trapped inside the building. People even went as far as to jump nine stories down.

The basic ideas of the progessivists within the United states were democracy, efficiency, regulation of large corporations and monopolies, and social justice. I think that these ideas are still relevant today so that no one group or person has all the control. Because of progressivism, work situations in factories have improved by far since the early industrial days. They could still improve but progressivism has allowed them to become safer to operate in than before.

During the Triangle Fire, over 100 workers were killed because of fire inspections and precautions. Doors and exits were locked and the ladder from the fire truck was too short. Many people jumped instead of waiting to be burned alive by the ravenous flames. The fire illustrated that working conditions were appalling and they needed to be regulated to insure the safest working conditions for the workers.

The first general area that progressives tried to reform was Democracy. Progressives tried to give the American public more say in who is in office. Progessives came up with Initiative, Referendum, and Recall reforms. Progessives also introduce the Austrialian secret ballot to stop political bosses from controling the cities and states government. The Seventeenth Amendment also allow the direct election of Senators. The Nineteenth Amendment allows all women to vote.

Progressives also tried to make the government more efficient and rational. This include placing trained administrators in offices. This include the rise of city mangers. Progressives also tried to reorganize the city governments and creating budgets. Government corruption was also also a hige target.

The third goal was the Regulation of Large Corporations and Monopolies. To some progressives, the free market is the best regulator of all. Most progressives wanted to destory trust and to regulate big corrupations.

Many progressives supported social justices which include devolping social workers and building Settlement Houses. Progressives was also big on creating child labor, organized labor, and prohibition laws.

The four general areas in which Progressivism tried to reform American Society were Democracy, Efficency, the regulation of large corporations and monopolies and Social Justice.

For democracy, they tried to get more response to the people from the government by introducing many new ideas such as the secret ballot. This allowed the voters to keep their vote secret, not like before where the vote was made public.

In the area of Efficency, they began movements to eliminate government corruptions. They began cleaning up the government by having professional administrators working in the offices.

The Regulation on the Large corporations and monopolies introduced trust busting that led to the break down of the large companies to smaller ones in order to provide more competition among the corporations.

In the area of Social Justice, the progressivists introduced child labor laws that tried to stop having kisd working instead of going to school and getting and education.

I believe that many of the ideas introduced by the Progressist Movement are still needed today, specially in the area of the Government efficency and social justice because many crimes can be commited and these laws help kepp everyone in chack.

1. Democracy - The main goal was to try to make the government listen more to the american people. One thing that was accomplished in this was Recall which allowed a public offical to be taken out of office from a direct vote.
2. Efficiency - The main goal was to make the governmental procedures more efficent and rational. One accomplishment was the city manager system which had paid proffessionals run the city government affairs
3. Regulation of Large corporations and monopolies - to free the humans from the restrictions place on them through regulating large corporations. On accomplishment was regulating the companies for public interest.
4. Social Justice - the main goal was to help the people in need. One accomplishment of this was the opening of the settlement houses.

Many of these ideas are still relevant today. Many things which began during this time are still used today such as the secret ballot and direct election.

What happened in the triangle fire factory was that a fire broke out on the 9th floor of the factory (which had horrible working conditions). There was no way to escape (because the fire escape led to nowhere) and many people died or were forced to jump. The firefighters ladders were also too short to reach the people.

1. Political reforms were in favor of democracy (giving more direct power to the people) and included the secret ballot, which prevented voter intimidation by keeping people's voting records secret.
2. Progressives wanted efficiency with things like big county governments, planned budgets, and professional, full-time local administrators instead of city bosses.
3. Progressives were split on how to deal with large corporations and monopolies that mistreated workers and killed competition. The corporations could be split up, regulated, or left alone (laissez-faire). Some believed laissez-faire would work because the market would regulate itself. Companies with bad working conditions would have all their workers quit and companies with low-quality products would lose all their customers. Except that this obviously isn't the case because McDonalds still exists.
4. Social justice, which is charity work, volunteering, or other work to help people, was the fourth goal of progressives. They passed child labor laws that made it illegal for children to work too many hours, in the hope that they'd go to school instead.

These ideas are definitely relevant because the same problems—undereducation, monopolies, poverty, bad policy, and low-quality products, to name a few—still exist. But it's not that these problems came back; they were much worse before and the progressives toned them down a lot. If we want to help, we can't do it by reinforcing the progressives' policies (because they're still working fine); we have to come up with new, additional solutions.

Democracy- Progrssives tried to give more rightsto the citizens. One of the accomplishment was recall by which citizens could vote to remove publick official from office.
Efficiency- Progressives want the nation to serve citizens needs more eficient and rational. The rise of city manager gave city under the control of professional administrators. The power of machine politicians and urban political bosses were eliminated.

Regulation of Large Corporations and Monopolies- Progressives tried to regulate large corporations. progressives disagree in that privately owned companies could never be made to serve the public interest.
Social Justice- This goal was to help people in need. The consumption of alcohol was prohibited. Child labor laws made it illegal for children to work too long.
I think that these ideas are still relevant today. Child labor still exist. Some people are still struck with poverty and no education.
The fire claimed 146 people's lives. The fire broke out on the top floor. The exit door were locked so it prevented workers to escape. The ladders were too short for fire fighter to rescue any people in the ninth floor.

The goal was to creat a democracy.Citizens were allowed to make laws and vote for or against the prgressives.Budgets were also developed.

The four goals are demoracy, efficieny, regulation and social justice. Demoracy is what the progressives tried to make in the government. Efficiency is making things run more smoothly. Social justice is supporting both government and private actions. To a sure these goals happen progressives did alot. For demoracy, citizens were allowed to make laws and vote. For efficiency, the numbers of officals and budgets were reduce. For regulation, progressives thought trust-busting was a good idea. Laslty socail justice, there was alot to help the people like Enactment of child labor, and the Settlement Houses

Democracy was the first goal of progresiveism. The referendum was one democratic accomplishment. Efficiency was another goal of progresivism. The movement to end corruption in the government was an accomplishment of that. The regulation of large corporations and monopolies was another goal in witch trust-busting was an accomlishment of this. The last goal of progressives was social justice. An accomplishment toward social justice was the enactment of child labor laws. These ideas are not used much often today, but they are still positively necessary.

the main goals of progresivism were efficiancy, social welfare, moral improvement, and economic reform. what they did to the children, how they putthem to work like that was completely wrong. the pictures were very depressing. there point of efficancy was to inprove the government.

Progressivism was based on the simple ideas of efficiency, trust control, democracy, and social justice, these idea were not randomly chosen to represent progressivism, they were the problems or ideas that faced millions of Americans in the early 19th century, urbanization, industrialization, immigration all were issues that were affecting the way people lived, industrialization brought people to the cities, to the urban areas in search of jobs, money, and shelter, the results of industrialization were urbanization and immigration, urbanization was the entire idea that people would migrate to the big cities as a result of certain factors, industrialization also brought immigrants to the United States in search of jobs, new lives, and places to raise their families, because of the inundation of people into the society, living conditions in the lower classes dropped drastically, the ideas of progressivism were truly meant to fix the issues that were becoming real problems in societies across America

Anonymous said...

the whole idea of Progressivism is to make sure the people are equally treated and that society could change if not effective. just like the four goals, Progressivism asure the safety of the industries and the people who work in it. Women was also a big factor in the movement, to asure the right to vote. they also intend to destory the trusts and allow democracy to take over, giving people rights instead of big industries.

the triangle fire was basically the idea of locking workers inside becuase they were "wasting" their time during breaks, etc. the fire killed most and some died from jumping out of fire as an attempt to escape.

Progressivism was a reform movement, which was embraced by the diverse American population of the early twentieth century to advance humanity. Progressivm had four primary goals, which were: democracy, efficiency, regulation of large corporations and monopolies, and lastly, social justice. The goal for Democracy was to make the U.S. government more responsive to the "direct voices"of the American people. Progressives tried and were successful in instituting reforms, such as Initiatiave, Referendum, Recall, and Secret Ballot. (Referendum is a procedure where citzens could vote directly on whether to approve or disprove proposed laws. For efficiency, progressives wanted to make the American government more capable of serving the people's needs by making governmental operations and services more efficient for Americans. One of the successful reforms made under Efficiency was the Movement to Eliminate Governmental Corruption. Many progressives eiliminated political machines and political bosses to clean up the government. For Regulation of Large Corporations and Monopolies, progressives hoped to human engergies from resrictions imposed upon them by industrial capitalism. An accomplishement made towards regulating corporations was Socialism, which stated that privately owned companies would never serve the public interest, so the government should take over large corporations and operate them for the public interest. For Social Justice, progressives supported both private and governmental action to help people in need. One of the reforms under social justice was the establishment of child labor laws, which would prevent children from overworking in the new emerging industries. The goal of child labor laws was to give middle class children the opportunity to go to school and mature naturally.

I think that even in today's society, although most Americans may not be aware that child labor still exists, child labor is still very much going on today. Most people don't support child labor, but in third world countries, when it's a choice between life and death, many children are forced to work at difficult and often dangerous jobs for very little pay. Therefore, ideas of child labor is still relevent today.

The Triangle fire was the fire that occurred at the Triangle Waste Company n New York City. 146 young immigrant workers'lives were taken, and the Triangle fire is one of the worst disasters cince the Industrial Revolution. It brought people's attention to the attrocious and in-humane conditions that factory workers were subjected to. To many people, the Triangle fire epitomizes the horrors and extremes of industrialization.

The first goal of progressivism was making the US a direct democracy. One accomplishment toward democracy was the initiative, referendum, and recall. They also called for social justice, bringing about acts such as the Child Labor Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act. Their goal of efficiency brought about things like the secret ballet to attempt to stop corruption. Their last goal was trust busting. Too many corperations got too large and they wanted to regulate the size of these corperations so monopolization would not occur. Though not talked about much today, they are still relevant.

The triangle fire was a fire in a factory in which women were locked in because they kept leaving to take breaks. This is not too dissimilar to the fires in the Chicago night clubs not too long ago. No one could escape easily and in order to do so, they had to jump out of a window.

The ideas of initiative, referendum, recall, the secret ballot, the direct primary, the idea of the direct election of U.S. senators, and women's suffrage were introduced. the triangle fire was basically the idea of locking workers inside becuase they were "wasting" their time during breaks, etc. the fire killed most and some died from jumping out of fire as an attempt to escape. It's funny because i can see women jumping off the building like the man who jumped off the Titanic in the movie hit the propeller and broke his leg and eventually died trying to escape what a dumb idea. The idea of child labor is weak. The kids need to be frizzle(free) to play and do other kids actitivies not be stuck doing Wizzle(work)

All the parties came together on these issues like child labor, corrupt government, senator elections, women's voting rights, and secret ballots(people need to mind thier own business). The pictures that are posted pertaining to child labor are horrific, I've never seen such things like that in my life.Duh! And these people talkin bout effiency!

2-trust busting- regulation of large corporations and monopolies, liberation from the restrictions of industrial capitalism
3- social justice- help those who need help, child labor laws.

The first goal of Progressivism was to promote democracy throught the country so that the American people would have their voices heard directly. The Progressives tried to accomplish this goal by using the Australian ballot, having a direct election of U.S. senators, and by allowing recalls and referendums where the citizens would have direct voting rights. The second goal was efficency. The progressives wanted efficency yo make teh economy more functional and productive. They accomplished this task by eliminating corruption within the government that was seen as being inefficent. The third goal of Progressivism was to regulate large corporations and monopolies. Trust-busting was a way to achieve this goal. The Progressives believed that the power of an economy should not be owned by only one company, but that the power should be competed for. This way prices would not rise for no reason and the economy would remain fair. The last goal of the Progressives was social and moral justice. To accomplish this goal, the progressives started the Prohibition, which prohibited alcohol in the counrty. They believed that alcohol was the source of the problems in the USA and believed that if they removed the source, then the problems would in turn disapper as well.

Progressivism is trying to make sure the people were treated equal. just like the four goals, Progressivism try to make it safe for the industries and the worker. women wanted right to vote so they were part of this. one of thier goal was to destory the trusts which is the cooperation and and give the people more rights.

the triangle fire was locking of workers inside becuase they were said to be wasting their time during breaks. from this lock the worker were kill by the fire and some jump out of windows trying to get out of the fire.

First goal is democracy so U.S. citizen would have the ability to have say in the government. The direct election of senators gives citizens the power to directly vote for there senators and the recall which allows citizen to vote to remove a public official from his or her position. Efficiency is the next goal of progressivism. This aided citizen in making governmental operations and services easier. An example of this is the transfer of power from urban bosses to professional administrators. The third goal is to regulate trust which is done with trust-busting which means the government would break-up the trusts into several smaller companies. The final goal is social justice which should provide things for the citizen: housing and a better living condition. The supporting of the goals of the organzied labor like the eight-hour work day.

Sorry, forgot to comment on the other question.
No I don't think it is because of the child labor laws and that the factors which those children worked are rarely found.

The four main goals of progressionism were democracy, efficiency, regulation, and social justice.
The progressive wanted more democracy for the people. They wanted to have initiative, referendum, recall, secret ballot, direct primary, direct election of senators, and womens suffrage. These in reforms would increase participation in government and awareness of political ideas.
The progressive wanted efficicency. They wanted to end overlapping of power in government agencies; also, they wanted trained adminstrators.
Thirdly, the progrssive wanted to regulate housing, chlid labor, food production, and sanitation. They saw how worse conditions have gotten and wanted change.
Lastly, they advocated social justice. They wanted to end harsh working condition, bring children back to education and enforce child labor laws.

The four primart goals of progressivism are: Democracy, Efficency, Regulation of Large Corporations and Monopolies, and Social Justice.

Democtacy is a way for the people to have a voice in their government. It was the making and banishing of laws.

Efficency is the making of the government more reliable and efficent. By doing so, they had professionals and a process in order to keep it organized and in control.

Regualtion... was trying to take control of the corporations. Some people felt that breaking down the larger corporations and having little businesses was best while others felt that larger companies would do the economy better.

Social Justice is the helping hand of the government for the American people. This provided support, welfare, and community centers to help those who can't afford as much as others.

I think that all of these ideas still exist today but some stand out stronger than others. I think democracy and social justice seem to stand out the most. Regulation... Monopolies today favor the more larger corporations... for example Microsoft.

Democracy would make the government take more action to what the people want in labor reform and other progressive causes. The secret ballot helped make any sort of democracy possible.
Efficiency was to make gov't run better with less corruption. That worked somewhat.
Regulation of companies and monopolies was to level the playing field for workers to get what they deserve, stop price scalping, and help competition.
Social justice was a strive for common moral values. Prohibition was a result.

These ideas will always be relevant. People will never let any of these things happen. Progressives were an idealistic lot.

A fire started in the factory, but the exits were locked shut and there were no escapes. Many people died horrible deaths.

The four goals of progressivism were the creation of a democracy, efficieny, regulation of large companies and monopolies, and lastly social justice.

When creating a democracy progrgrssives wanted to make the government aware of the peoples wants and to get the masses more involved in the government. They made political reforms such as iniative, referendum, and recall to accomplish their goal of creating a better democracy. The direct election of senators was put into the constitution along with iniative ,referndum, and recall. Their ability to change the constitution showed just how powerful of an organization they were

Progressisves wanted the government to be more efficient and helpful to the people by making it more rational. To establish efficiency they established the city manager, centralization of decision-making process, and eliminating government corruption. This movement got rid of bosses and big corporations.

Thirdly progreesives wanted to regulate large companies and monopolies. They hoped to control the corporations, and make them smaller to create more competion. They came up with four ideas to do this. The first was Laissez-Faire, this was an argument made that, in the end the best market would be a free one. Trust busting was the idea of breaking up trust to create more competion. Regulation was the idea of getting rid of monopolies to regulate them so they don't get out of control. Last was Socalism which was the idea that the goverment should take control and run the large companies.

Lastly comes social justice. Through this progressives supported both private and governmental action to help those in need. Reforms of this movement include: Development of professional social workers,The building of Settlement Houses, The enactment of child labor laws, Support for the goals of organized labor, Prohibition laws. The most important movement the progressives took wa sprotecting children in the work field. Children should not have bben made work in factories.

I do believe these ideas are still relavent today. I think child labor is returning to its old form You have lots of teenagers working today for low prices and now they are starting to work long hours.

First off the proggressive movement did infact improve things for the better. I mean just think of what would have been of today If progressives such as president woodrow Wilson did'nt do all he could to make thing better? You have to thank the people who died for these very important causes, feel bad for the little children who were worked to the bone, and the many men and women who died for other causes as well, but then you have to thank them for paving the way for us today. Always....

The four major ideas of progressivism include Democracy, efficiency, regulation of large companies, and social justice.

Democracy expresses ideas of making the gov't more responsive to the voice of the people.

Efficiency is to make the gov't better to serve the people's needs by making gov't operations and services efficient.

The third is the regulation of coorporations so they can liberate human energies from the restrictions.

The fourth is social justice in which the private government tries to help the people in need using justice as a backbone.

-Regarding child labor, I think that it was horrible that the kids had to work and work just to make a little money in order to survive. They got hurt, injured, and sick trying to feed themselves. I think the gov't was a little slow in realizing that child labor isn't healthy.
