British Debate Terrorism In Parliament

Go to this site and watch the debate in the House of Commons between Prime Minister Tony Blair and oppostion leader Michael Howard over a bill to detain suspects without charge for 90 days. By the way the Prime Minister lost the vote. Also take a look at the background feature that explains "question time." Imagine a debate like this with George Bush on either side?

Who are the MP?

First of all, MP stands for Member of Parliment, it is the member that represents the area that you live in at parliment, sort of like a congressman.

Now to the article, it was quite shocking. I actually thought that this vote would turn out in Blair's favor. For him to lose this vote is quite a dangerous thing for him. Having 52 of your own party members vote against you is never a good thing in a governmental system. If Bush was on Blair's side of the debate, I think that things would be quite similar. If he was on the opposition I do not know how things would turn out. Seeing Bush debate on the opposite side that he is on now, quite strange, especially since he passed the Patriot Act.

It kinda sucks that 52 of your own members don't support you and agree with you. If I was in his shoes I's wonder what the hell am I doing wrong? and if they diagree with me on this what else do they diagree on? It shows weakness in the government and how it is divided. In such a time like this you need to have people support you and back you up just to show strength and unity. But he's gotta think wow, maybe I should reevaluate my position because if so many people diagree, not necessarily change it because you are the outsider but because the majority of people don't consider it a good idea. I don't know thats just me.

I think that this is BOGUS!!!! Having those 52 people go against you that are suppse to be on your side sucks. Especially since this it is so critcal that you have these votes! I also agree with Angela, if all these people go against him he has to stop and wonder why. Well if that was me that's what I would do. Then I would take what their saying and try to chaneg what I believe in to get their votes. Basically I would just play the game, because that's what you need to do to win!
