It is said in the Jacksonian Democracy that it is the strictest sense. It expands the suffrage to restructuring the federal institutions. The Jacksonian moves diversely on social and intellectual instead of moving in the right way. By 1840, both the Jacksoian Democracy and its opposite had built formidable national followings and had turned politics into a debate over the market revolution itself. Through 1830s and 1840s, the Jacksonian fought to keep the United States a democracy from the slavery questions. Although the Jacksonian Democracy died in the 1850s, a powerful legacy was left with the presumptions of white supremacy.

This was the most boring thing that I have ever read, although it had a lot of information. I think it was a little TOO educational for me. But it does raise up some good points. I think the "Revolution" was a high point in American history. For a while there was a sense of patriotic nationalism. (I know thats kinda redundant)Anyone that is anyone was allowed to vote, even though it was only white males. Looking at it from that time point of view it was a good thing. But what people didn't think about was that the majority of people couldn't vote and that all of these benifits onlyt applied to white males. Although it was a larger amount of people that were eligable than before there was still a lot of people left out. Even with the discrimination I think it made a huge impact on how people (mainly white males) think.

The only benefit of the Jacksonian Democracy is that more and more white men were able to think that they are superior to everyone else. Instead of it only being white male elite who can walk around with their noses in the air, now ALL white men had the ability to do so. It did promote an interest and a unity of politics but it doesn't outweigh the white supremacy.

Jacksonian Democracy was anothr step in getting the United States from where it began, with "political parties" against each other on all aspects and differing in support for Britian, to where we are today, Republicans and Democrats, the system Jackson brought about was most influential for the white men though, because the white men, all white men, were beginning to vote and his ideas appealed to this type of citizen

This article really display the power of the Jacksonian Democracy. Jackson and his democracy gave powers and rights to more voters. Only the elite and wealthy white men, with tons of lands, could vote was now joined with the rest. In the Jacksonian Democracy, all white men from in the United States was able to vote, this gave Jackson a lot of power. I find it ineteresting that Jackson will murdered thousand of Indians to satisfied the people. to me, this is a crucial statement and i personally think that he should not be president. But beside that downfall, Jackson did do something good for the the people. He clear the western side of the United States for settlers, which is good if you're on his side. There were a lot of good political issue argue in this article, but i'm not going to talk about it because it might bore you along with your hot room. Why can't Jackson and other president clear a territory for the Indians only, instead of murdering them all?

The Jacksonian Democracy was based on white men wanting more power. The white blue- collared men wanted to have the same powers as the aristrocrats who are always getting richer. Jackson wanted more land, and weaking fedual power. To get more land he pushed the five civalized nations off over their land. They fought Mexico to acquire Texas. They also tried to quiet all slave talk from both the North and the South. The Jacksonians were racist all they care about was white men. The natives who walked on the Trail of Tears were conforming to American Society and were still punished for being natives. They annex all the land they could from the Mexicans. The Jacksonians tried to avoid slavery to try to keep the nation together, but that proved to be the Jacksonians demise as the party crumbled as the Civil War broke out.

This article shows how much power the Jacksonian Democracy really had. This democracy gave ALL white men the right to vote instead of the more high class important white males. Because more people were able to vote it gave Jackson more attention and more power. I think that giving ALL the white man the ability to vote is not that big of a deal. How about the women?? and other people who weren't white. I think that Jackson was to ignorant to see that he really didn't have much of a positive influence and that he wasn't all that and a bag of hot flamings. :)-

Jacksonian Democracy, although thought of as a huge accomplishment (because of its peacefull revolutionary political transformation)at the time, still had many flaws. Yes it is good that more people could vote (pretty much all white males with property or without), but I must question why it was only extended to that. How did the extention get only as far as white males? Jackson's main theme was to biuld upon and keep democracy alive. Although Jackson said he could identify with the common people, and he tried to establish more equality, I think that he was just to Contradictory. In that I mean how can you say hat you really "identify" with the common people if you only let white males have equality. It was this focus on only a certain genre of people and interests that made the formation of its opposition evedent. Also, the failure of Jacksonan Democracy to do anything about sectional differnences and slavery issues. So, in turn, I believe that the white male majority only set themselves up for the consequences of when it was vital to deal with the issues.

I think this article is very powerful. I shows just how strong democracy is. It also shows weaknesses like, how most of democracy was about whites. It isn't fair that only white males could have rights which is basically what Jacksonian Democracy is about. What about females and people of color. I think that all they cared about was white supremacy.

Anonymous said...

The article says that the "Jacksonian Democracy" stressed more rights for the civilian of that time and against a ruling elite or a "nobility." This form of democracy stressed equality for the people (white men with property) of the West and South (the newer settlements).

Anonymous said...

The article should have specified who or what should have the equal rights. It was kind of stupid because the article came from an encyclpedia. HAHA nice try Fons!!!

Anonymous said...

The fundementals of Jacksonian Democracy were simple advancements in rights. Jacksonian democracy was based around universal white suferage and the comon man. It stressed the power of the masses and was based soley on the manipulation of that power by the educated through lies and deception and the first political Machines whic ingratiated as many people into party politics as monica lewinski let in her you know what, in the over all it was a more co-operative taming of the masses for the rich mans profit

Anonymous said...

The article was about how the Jacksonian Democracy was very strict. It tried to bring equality with the north and the south by giving more people a chance to vote. The only problem was that only white men could vote. I believe that this just made matters worst because now all of the white men could look down on the black men and the women. If it were up to me, all adults would have been able to vote.

Anonymous said...

He expanded suffrage to restructuring federal institutions. His damocratic movement was moslty for the white men. From this all white men was able to vote. Jackson was hungary for more land. this resulted, in the movement of the 5 civilized tribes. HIs career as an Indian fighter and conqueror of British made him a popular hero. After the jacksonian democracy died it was still seen as a legacy. it still infects american politics. i think the article was okay, but jackson becoming famous for killing indians was odd.

Anonymous said...

As usual I did learn something but the way it was written lost my interest often. But, what I get from this is basically this party or group was for "real democracy". It was important for equal human rights for voting, etc.-the only humans though were apparently white men.

Anonymous said...

If I were in this time period I don't know if I would have been for or against the Jacksonian ideas becuase the time have surely chancged, arent we lucky, but I don't fault Jackson for having some of the egotistic ideas he had. Then again he is a man just like many are today, he faught for what he believed in and made his mark on history for sure and for that we can not knock him, isn't that what everyone strives for?

Anonymous said...

The "Jacksonian Democracy" was supposedly the REAL democracy for them. Yet the only people invovled in the democracy were white males. Sure it's a step up from white males with property who were able to vote; but if we're speaking equality it should complete equality no matter who you are. What im seeing is that although people are being led to beleive that this "democracy" is going to better themselves it is really only pushing the power into the hands of the small elite. I don't think we should go by what Jackson thought, today. I would have said more but this article is kind of confusing! HEY EVERYONE!

Anonymous said...

The fundamental ideas of the Jacksonian Democracy was to get rid of any class biases in the government, to get rid of the Bank of the United States, and removal of the native americans for more land. They also wanted equal rights and a limited government which would limit the upper class's power. The Jacksonians wanted to keep slavery out of poltics

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Period in my opinion was only about white men having more and more power in the U.S. Government. It really didn't benefit any one else. Jackson claimed to care about the Indians but he did not seem to oppose the Indian Removal Act which came to cause the Trail Of Tears. He was only interested in politcal power, which at the time consisted of only white males. This idea has been passed on and will continue to dominate our socieity in the years to come for the American government.

Anonymous said...

The Beginning of this article basically talks about how racist that Jackson was and how he gave white people more superiority politically and socially. I think Jackson was a very stupid and closed minded person. Even if black women could vote back then I sure wouldn't have voted for him. The only thing he did that was ok was expanded west for settlement and let the poor white people vote too. otherwise he was a ignorant cruel man.

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Democracy was begining to equal rights for people. now every white man could vote before that only a select few could vote this way there would be more interset in politics which helpped him win the election since he was "like the common people." to me he didn't have much to offer he was like the other presidents just adding a little funk to the campaign.

Anonymous said...

Jacksonian democracy was meant to give power to a diverse group of people, not just white landowning males. For nonwhites, it was a disaster, but it created among whites too. The people feared centralized, top down, broad constructionist economic development. Property requirements for voting were abolished during this period. The main goal of Jacksonian democracy was to rid government of class biases and dismantle the top-down, credit-driven engines of the market revolution. It aimed towards voters who felt left out.

Anonymous said...

THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING! It basically repeated the same stuff over but with more details; neverending! But the "ideas" mentioned about the Jacksonian Democracy was that they had comformed with the common folks, blocked about slavery, compaigned, made promises they couldn't uphold, and built nationalism patriotism throughout the nation. There was a lot of debate about this, because of slavery and land, and voting. I think the worst thing of all was using slavery as a smokescreen to use the majority interest in the nation when the Jacksonians knew that they could never dodge that issue in the first place; neverending. Though this was based on voting, it was ONLY for white males; discriminating against native americans, women, slaves...all that stuff.

Anonymous said...

In the Jacksonian Democracy, the Jacksonians contributed morally wrong and helpful things during his term as President. They wanted more powerful federal institutions to better the white people only. Slavery was also allowed but to be kept out of any subject pertaining to rights and politics. Jackson forced the Native Americans from their lands and deported them somehwere in the West so that the "God chosen" whites would have a place to live. They wanted to get rid of the Bank of the US to create more economic power for white men. Jacksonians also promoted univeral male suffrage for the first time . They also wanted equal rights and a strong national goverment.

Anonymous said...

The Jacksoninan Democracy was all about white males. Not only were the elite allowed to vote but the farmers and "lower class". It gave some idea of untiy among the people but it was only for white males no matter where you are ranked in society. But it still didnt help the democracy because the white elite males were still in power

Anonymous said...

The fundamental ideas of Jacksonian Democracy was an expansion on people's rights. Jacksonians wanted a more powerful federal institutions. Universal male suffrage allow all white male to be able to vote now instead of just white male with property. Native Americans were force out of their land and move west. The Jacksonians wanted to get rid of the bank of america to limit power and rid government of class biases . It emphasized equal rights and slavery was kept out of politic.

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Democracy was very important. This allowed many other white men to vote. At first it was only white, rich, men with land who can vote but it expanded to all white men. When all Native Americans were forced to the West I think this was better because they can start something new but to have land was very expensive. Jackson really didn't stress the fact of slavery and I think this is something that should have been stressed during that time.

Anonymous said...

Jackson fought for what he believed in and why should he be knocked for that? Agreeing with candace the natives should't be kicked off. Staying away from slavery is whats best because slavery was a huge issue and it caused a lot of problems. What I didn't like is that jefferson made the topic of white males too big. It seemed as though he was only focused on that.

Anonymous said...

Jaksonian Democracy was brought into place to instill male saffrage. During this time all males where able to vote, in the 1820s. He kept federal view still in place; while giving white males more superiority over all others. When all white male were able to vote, it gave Jackson more power because he was a strong advocate for equally in most. He gain more strenghten after displacing the Native Americans further off there land. Pushing the Native American off there land gave him respect among the people, mostly the southern land owners. Jackson now raising in the south from the Native American removal act, he vote the National Bank of America calling it, "anti-American establishment." Land out west was became now open white southern slave owners. In later history this will greatly affect the civil war and the which states would be slave states and which would not.

Anonymous said...

The jacksonian idealogy was to create national unity with the North and South, allowing every white male to vote to create white male equality, helping local farmers by taking the indians' propety and giving it to white males, and not having any issue of slavery in national affairs.

Anonymous said...

Jacksonian Democracy is about furthering capitalism. That pushes forward every other aspect of Jacksonian democracy especially in hierarchy. That changed when when Jackson was in office with him seeking equality while it was only for white men. The south did not like the egalitarianism at all because they feared their loss of slavery.
Jackson also helped the USA's economy by tariffs and taking land from Indians for farmers in the south.

Anonymous said...

WOW another article, you do know this isn't the only class we have and some of us do have other responsibilities.
Ok..this article told us about the addition of white men who could vote during this period...meaning voting went from only upper class whit men to all white men. Jackson won the election due to the extention of voting given to the common people. Also there was an easy transition of power I guess so this period in time was important.....
Now the part about him murdering innocent indians to please the people was somewhat cruel and shows how greedy the U.S. was then and is now.

I am so glad I wasn't the only one who thought this was a complete SNOOZE FEST! NEway, I know I would usually favor on the side who opposes the rich, white man, but in this case I would rather look at the "big picture" (screw consistency!). I think those scholars who viewed the "Jacksonian Democracy" as "...a political impulse tied to slavery, the subjugation of Native Americans, and the celebration of white supremacy...." as partially right, but they were missing the "big picture." Although I agree with most of their criticisms on the discrimination in the voting, their disregard, or dismissal I should say, of the forward progress in democracy being made seems unreasonable to me. However small the progress, progress is still progress. For a nation who favored only rich, landowning white guys, to allow even poor white guys to vote-although it may not seem like much now-was a great movement for the time.

Jacksonian Democracy is the term given to the movement led by Andrew Jackson in the 1830s. During this time, the spirit of equality among the new settlers in the West and South and the extension of voting to men without property were raging through America. The Jacksonian Democracy had fundamental ideas such as getting rid of government class biases and removing the wealthy from having complete control of the economy. The Jacksonians also stressed equal rights and equal power or representation in the government. Although the Jacksonians seemed to be for fair and justice, they were also racist and biased. They fought to keep the United States free from the slavery question, because they believed it would distract people from noticing the inequality of the white men. I believe that the Jacksonian Democracy was not a movement for democracy at all, but just a cover-up for “common” white men to gain more power in the government.

int he jacksonian DEMOCORACY THE WHITE ME BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE ALL SUPERIOR TO EVERYONE ELSE. BEFORE ONLY THE RICH WHITE MEN AND THE UPPER CLASS ERE ABLE TO WALK AROUND WITH THEIR HEADS UP BUT NOW ALL WHITE MEN CAN DO THIS. THE DEMOCORACY GAVE A LOT MORE VOTERING POWER TO THE PEOPLE. I THINK THAT IT WAS TOTALLY WACK THAT HE HAD TO MURDER ALL THOSE INDAINS, INSTEAD HE COULD OF JUST MOVESD THEM ALL WITH OUT ALL THE DEATHS.

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Democracy was a democratic movement lead by Andrew Jackson himself. Their view on the country was to expand the suffrage and restructure federal institutions. The democratic movement was brought together by tension among the market revolution, the different factions within the country who were developing their own kind of economy, but mainly and only for white men and their needs.

Anonymous said...

Quite honestly I would have to say that this article was a bit too wordy. It was really dry which was kind of weird because this is an interesting topic when you get straight to the point. BUT I think that the Jacksonian Democracy was infact not a democracy at all. Technically that would include any and everyone. This man was bent on getting that land away from the Natives so it would belong to them, and when I say them I mean priveliged white men. I can't really looked at some of the 'good things' he's done because there was so much wrong with the big picture.

Anonymous said...

The white males were really the only ones who had absolute power! The only benefit I saw was that the voters got more power! It seemed to be all about the rights of the white males in this democracy!!!

Anonymous said...

Honestly i can't stand the Jacksonian Democracy. Though it gave more to new voters,I don't think is fair that only whites were allowed to vote. Also only elite and wealthy could vote.Do these people ever wander about women too? Even though later on the in the 1840'sthe Jacksonian fought to the whole slavery issue. I was fair for only the people who voted for a certain person to get the jobs.

Anonymous said...

The article was interesting at times but it slowly got boring because the information seemed to drag on and on. It tended to repeat itself a lot in my eyes as well. Even though it was boring at some parts, I definitely agree with what Lester what saying. Even though I don't agree with the whole idea that Jackson wanted to remove biased but only for white men, his basic idea was a steeping stone for what was later to come. What started out as just white males progressed into women and blacks and other races in the future. To us, now, it might seem that it was contradicting for Jackson to want no biased but in the general idea of everything a small step is in reality a huge step.

Anonymous said...

This is a step forward in democracy. All white males are allowed to vote instead of just land-owning ones. However, the vast majority of people still can't vote! Women can't vote, and they make up about half of the population. Jacksonian Democracy did help to broaden the range of voters, but not my that much. There is still a long way to go.

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Democracy article, is still kind of sketchy to me. From what I understand, this document was created to boost America's economy, but mainly benefitted the rich making them richer. I don't know exactly what I need to say to respond to this document so I am going to leave things short.I thought it was very educational and informative as to what kinds of impacts the Jacksonian Democracy had on America as a whole

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Democracy was suppose to be a huge accomplishment for people during the eighteen hundreds, it was to give more people the right to vote. It did do just that, but the people that started to gain rights were white males, the only difference now was that you didn't have to own land. But you still had to be a white male. What about the African Americans, what about the women? When clicking on the hyperlink in the article the third defintion of a democracy is "The common people, considered as the primary source of political power." Who does the common people apply to. Is it suppose to apply to all people in general, or is it suppose to apply to rich, white, males? I feel that if you want to make universal sufferage, you shouldn't be kicking native people off of the land they know and love. You should be fighting for the rights of each and every American. A state was made that the Jacksonian Democracy was suppose to limit the power of the upper classes so does the Jacksonian Democracy deliver what it says? In a why it did, because even though it had a lot of flaws and loose ends, it did guve right to (white males) that didn't own land. Overall this article delivers a lot of good information, but some of it is contradicting.

Anonymous said...

I think that Jacksonian Democracy was the first step towards real democracy. It expanded the voting rights to all white males which is a definate plus. It also helped to create the differing political parties that we have today. This article has excellent information, yet presented horribly. The way that Jackson dealt with the Indians was completely wrong. He shouldn't have forced the Indians off of their land to make room for more European settlers. The Europeans should have moved, not the Indians.

Anonymous said...

The Jacksonian Democracy was a large step towards democracy because it gave all white men the right to vote. it stressed power to the masses. i think that the Europeans should leave instead of the Indians, it only makes since.

Anonymous said...

Jackson only gave the poor white men a right to vote so that he could benefit his self by geting more votes and support from the common people. It wasn't like the wealthy white men now respected the poor white men. And honestly I don't see the excitement about this, the white men is just getting more power, they're not going to use it for the blacks benefits.

Anonymous said...

The jacksonian democracy was a stepping stone for the "immagrants" that came to america. it gave every white man the right to vote. I don't think itshould be looked at as good either because it left some important people like Native Americans and slaves. Although it should not totally be looked over.

Fundamentals:
Suffrage- lower and abolish property requirements to vote or hold an office
Equalize representation
All white men should have the chance at economic independence
Free to live as he fit suitable

Anonymous said...

Wow, what a waste of my time.
The way jackson dealt with the problems were pretty good to benefit him and his people. Jackson made them all equal, and there was universal suffrage for the white dudes. He did not give a s*** about indians and black. The idea to move all indians to the west was stupid, as hell, and gay. they should have just settled somewhere else or just around them.

I believe that Andrew Jackson was underminded and his ides were good but back then people were to affraid to take risk that evreything that he said was considered bad but it really was not.His democracy was excepted more widely and was presente dmore but jackson had a lot of allies so he was not alone. I also feel that we can learn a lot form Jasckons ideas in fact we have a lot of his ideas in todsays society.

I enjoyed reading this article. Truly, this Jacksonian Democracy was a revolution. All white men can vote now and Jackson fought to keep the democracy in America. The white man sufferage makes all whites equal which can cause bigheadtitus( a word from kevins dictionary which means pompous jack-a$$.

I believe that jacksons ideas weren't strict. I believe that it was more so a new concpet of thinking for the americas. He had new ideas of social and intellectual thoughts, which many were acustomed to. This was boring fons. Sry!!!!!!!!!

This article was very informative. It talked about how the "Jacksonian Democracy" was a movement in the American government during the 1830's. It kind of traced the way Jackson was elected for president and how he came to obstacles like the opposing coalition called the whigs. It also talked about how white male suffrage was expanded because jackson gave all white males a vote, not just the ones with property. One thing that was very interesting to me was that another angle to look at the jacksonian democracy was that it was a subjugation of the native americans and a celebration of white supremacy. I also agree with the fact that jackson opposed aristocracy and gave more opportunities to the common man.

The Jacksonian Democracy was ver powerful. In many cases it was influencial in a negative way. It encouraged social snobbery, and snobbery in general. valeria makes the point.

Boring, boring, boring, but informative. The Jacksonian Democracy was a movement aimed at the benefit of the "common man." Now, not only were white aristocrat men allowed to vote, the Jacksonian Democracy allowed all white males to vote for their president.
The "common men" weren't the only group affected by the Jacksonian Democracy. Hundreds of thousands of natives were later forced out of their land under this "democracy." The issue of slavery was purposely kept out of international affairs.

The Jackson democracy was not a democracy after all because it limited freedom, equality and justice to less than one-fourth of the population. Totally bogus, and to quote the article, which was accurate on this point, "The Jacksonian mainstream, so insistent on the equality of white men, took racism for granted."
AKA they expolited the exploitive system in a even more negative way!!! what crap... points were suffrege, social, economic, political, and cultural rights for all white men, including immagrants. This ariticle was pretty slow but had a ton of info. It was all infuriating because of the racist and sexist b.s. This is why we all, as the children of this world, NEED TO BE ACTIVE. THE IDEAS AND ACTIONS OF THESE (WHITE)(some of them are not white) MEN ARE DESTROYING OUR WORLD!! a lot of the crazy laws that were there in the Jacksonian period still exist, even if in more moderate ways.
Peace!

The jackson democracy was a movement in the early 1800s led by the president Andrew Jackson. Universal male suffrage was one of the main issues during this time because it gave all men the right to vote not just white landowning men. JAckson wanted to get rid of class bias and for everyone to have equal rights(except for slaves). There was a big disagreement about slavery between the north and south and the missouri compromise was formed to settle the dipute. Jackson didn't believe in the bank of the united states because he felt it made the rich richer and the poor poorer, and that wasn't something he agreed with. Everyone should have the same oppourtunities for success. Equal representation was another one of the fundamentals during this period. Jackson forced the indians off of their land so that their would be more land for the white men to gain. This was not a democratic desicion at all.

Anonymous said...

Jackson used universal male suffrage as a way to advance himself. This was also another way for the white people to seem superior. The Jacksonian Democracy didn't even follow the Constitution properly. Jackson wanted to move all the Indians out of the area so he could expand his own land. This wasn't in the Constitution. The president wasn't allowed to move whole races of people and then take their land.

jacksonian democracy was a movement for more democracy in american government. it stressed equality and greater rights for the common man, and opposed any signs of aristocracy.

Matt Hockensmith said...

The Jacksonian period brought little in terms of economic opportunities. The removal of federal funds from the national bank, and the Specie Circulation of 1836 led to dramatic deflation and the inability of many western settlers to purchase land because it required hard money. It is not entirely accurate to regard the Jacksonian period as an era of the "common man. Just look at the Locofocos. Industrialists were living pretty with the Tariff of Abominations.
